Essential Lawn Care Tips for Summer
Maintaining a lush, green lawn during the summer months can be a challenge, especially for new homeowners. Here are some tips to help you keep your lawn healthy and vibrant:
- Saturate the turf with water as necessary until grass is established
- Mow the lawn when the young grass is 2-3 inches long
- Apply a fertiliser approximately every 6 weeks during the growing season to maintain a high quality lawn
- Indigenous weeds may appear in your lawn, most of these will disappear after moving but those that do persist should be treated with a selective weed killer 4 months after sowing / laying of turf
- If possible keep pets of the lawn – some pets can have acidic urine which can burn and kill grass in patches. If this is not possible it’s a good idea to neutralise the area with plenty of water
- Regular aeration will loosen the soil preventing soil compaction and water logging
- Remove leaves as they block light and trap moisture causing dead spots of grass on your lawn
Remember, every lawn is unique and what works for one might not work for another. It may take some trial and error to find the right routine for your lawn. Happy gardening!
